An 18-year-old is charged after a boy, 15, was hurt in a suspected stabbing at a park near Slad Road, Stroud, on 12 September. What police have said.
An 18-year-old man has been charged after a 15-year-old boy was hurt in a suspected stabbing at a park in Stroud on Saturday night. Gloucestershire Constabulary announced the charges on Monday morning.
Police say the boy’s injuries are minor. The force also says the people involved know each other and that it appears to have been an isolated incident.
What happened, according to the police
Emergency services were called to Slad Road at around 7.25pm on Saturday 12 September. The report was that a teenage boy had stabbed another teenage boy at a nearby park. That is from the force’s first statement, published at 10.43pm that evening.
In that statement, the force said:
- the victim, a 15-year-old boy, was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital
- his injuries were “not deemed to be serious”
- officers searched the area and arrested an 18-year-old on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm
- “those involved in the incident are known to each other and this appears to have been an isolated incident”
The force has not named the park.
The charges
On Monday 14 September the force announced the charges. Chace Stevens, aged 18 and of the Middle Leazes area of Stroud, has been charged with:
- inflicting grievous bodily harm
- assault occasioning actual bodily harm
- possession of an offensive weapon in a public place
The force said he had been remanded in custody and was due to appear at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court that day. Monday’s statement describes the boy’s injuries as minor.
A charge is not a finding of guilt. Stroud Today does not report court proceedings, so we will not be covering the case as it goes through the courts.
What it means for you
The police have not asked the public to avoid the area, and they describe the incident as isolated between people who know each other. No road closure was announced.
