Remembrance Sunday 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November, and Armistice Day on Wednesday 11 November. In Stroud the morning starts at St Laurence Church and moves to the war memorial in Park Gardens. None of the district’s town councils has published its 2026 running order yet, so the times on this page are last year’s, taken from each organiser’s own notice.

Stroud: St Laurence Church and Park Gardens

St Laurence, the parish church on the Shambles, published the 2025 arrangements itself: a gathering at the church at 9.30am, a period of quiet reflection for the men whose names the church records from the First World War, and then a walk down to Park Gardens for “the official Stroud Town Act Of Remembrance at the War Memorial”. The memorial itself is a tapering stone column about nine metres high, at the junction of Slad Road and Birches Drive (GL5 1QU). It is Grade II listed and carries the dedication “To the fallen” with the dates of both world wars and later campaigns added. (IWM War Memorials Register, Stroud Park Gardens)

One detail is open this year: Tony Davey stood down as Town Mayor in September so that councillors could elect a successor now, and Full Council next meets on Monday 28 September. Stroud Town Council has not published a 2026 notice, and it did not post a separate one in 2025. The 2026 timing should appear on the St Laurence page in late October or early November, which is when the 2025 version went up.

Wotton-under-Edge publishes the most detail. In 2025 the parade went from the Chipping along Market Street, Long Street and Church Street to the war memorial in Old Town, where the civic service included the two minutes’ silence, the National Anthem and the wreaths. It then carried on along Culverhay to St Mary’s for the dismissal and a family service. Roads on the route were closed from 10.25am to 11.45am. (Wotton-under-Edge Town Council, November 2025)

Minchinhampton closed its High Street from 10.30am to 11.30am, with volunteers managing the closure and no vehicles allowed in or out of the area in that hour. (Minchinhampton Parish Council, 23 October 2025, archived)

Nailsworth holds its service at St George’s Church, with the Nailsworth Silver Band leading the veterans’ march from Old Market beforehand and a wreath laid at the memorial afterwards. (Nailsworth News, November 2025)

Dursley marches in the afternoon. In 2025 the parade assembled at the bus station in May Lane at 2.30pm, set off at 2.45pm via May Lane, Castle Street and Silver Street, and the service at St James’ Church began at 3pm. Wreaths were laid at the War Memorial Gates between 3.30pm and 3.45pm and the parade dismissed in Long Street by 4pm. (Dursley Town Council, 31 October 2025)

Armistice Day, Wednesday 11 November

Two towns published an 11am act of remembrance on Armistice Day itself in 2025:

  • Nailsworth: the town and the Royal British Legion observed the silence and laid wreaths at the Clocktower Memorial in Bridge Street at 11am. (Nailsworth News)
  • Dursley: wreaths were laid at 11am at the new Second World War memorial garden on the War Memorial Recreation Ground. The plaque was moved there and rededicated in October 2025. (Dursley Town Council)

Getting there and road closures

Parades close short stretches of road for about an hour. No 2026 closure notices have been published yet; Minchinhampton’s went up in the last week of October in 2025 and Wotton’s in the first week of November.
